Womens Worlds, Swift Current, Canada
- the 20th - 28th of March
Day 1: After a VERY long trip we finally got to Swift Current late on thursday night. We were all extremely tired so after finding our rooms and packing out, it's now time for bed. So hopefully we will be able to sleep the whole night without waking up at 4 in the morning!
Day 2: We started the day by meeting our wonderful driver Stan. He showed us the arena, which is a beautiful complex with icehockey and curling rink right next to each other. We went to the official team meeting and had practice on the ice later in the afternoon. The ice was kean and swingy, so that was great! In the evening there was the opening banquet and we had a great dinner with the other teams, sponsors and the rest of the guests.
Day 3: Right after the opening ceremony at noon, we had our first game against Scotland. We had a rough start and never really got into the game. It didnt help us that the Scottish girls played amazing, so we didnt have many chances. After 8 ends we were down 9-4 so we shook hands. A disappointing loss, but we didnt play that well so we just need to step it up a little before tomorrow.
Day 4: Today turned out to be a great day! We were up early, playing China at 8.30am. The game was very even in the beginning but after the break we started stealing and the Chinese gave up after 9 ends. Wohoo, first win against them in almost 3 years!
We had a fun autograph session in Keiths patch before we played Germany in the evening. This game was also really even until we took a 4 in the 8th and Germany shook hands.
Day 5: Another morning game at 8.30. Yawn! We never really got into the game against Russia and after giving away 3 and after that another 3, its was pretty much game over. It was our coach Renee's birthday today so we celebrated her with a big cake, birthday songs and lots of presents! In the evening we played Switzerland and this time we were in control of most of the game. It was close for the first few ends, but then we started to play a little better and Switzerland gave up after 8 ends.
Day 6: Once again we had to play the morning draw, and this time it was against Canada. We struggle a little in the first ends, but after taking 3 in the 6th we were back in the game. It came down to last stone in the 10th, where we had to make a difficult runback double for extra end. It was so so close, but didnt curl quite enough and we lost the game. Right after we had to play USA and despite we had our chances to win, we didnt quite take them. Brown had a very tough shot in the 10th to win, and unfortunately for us she made it. Two losses in one day was very disappointing, but our driver Stan took us home to his place where we had a wonderful dinner and a great night, so that definitely cheered us up!
Day 7: Our game against Sweden this afternoon started out really bad for us. We gave away two 3 enders early in the game, and were down 7-2 after the 4th end. We picked ourselves up and started playing really well and stole in the 9th and 10th so the game went into extra end. Sweden had to draw the four foot and did, so even though we fought back we still lost the game. In the evening we won against Latvia after 6 ends, who didnt have their best game. The playoffs are now out of reach for us. It is truly disappointing, but we for sure had our chances.
Day 8: Today we played two really close games, frist against Japan and then against Norway. The Japanese were ahead the whole game until we took 4 in 8th and then 2 in 10th to win the game. We were in extra end against Norway but had an open hit for the win, and made it. The worlds are now over for us, but despite some losses we had a good time and once again showed that we are really good at fighting back in the games where we are down a lot.
